The Environmental Benefits of Heat Pumps
-
Eco-friendly heating: Heat pumps use environmental energy to generate heating and hot water for your home. This works by extracting thermal energy (heat) from the air or ground. This is then converted by a heat pump to generate heating and hot water for your home.
-
Low carbon footprint: Heat pumps operate using electricity and produce no emissions, making them much more environmentally-friendly than traditional heating systems. Just 25% of the energy used by a heat pump is provided by electricity, with the remaining 75% being generated by the environment.
-
Renewable energy heating: Using alternative energy sources such as solar power means your heat pump can reduce your reliance on fossil fuels and your reliance on the electricity grid. In addition to solar photovoltaic (PV) panels, solar thermal systems can also be used to pre-heat water for a heat pump, further reducing electricity consumption.
What advantages does a heat pump have?
- Cost Savings and ROI: Due to their high efficiency, heat pumps can substantially reduce your energy consumption compared to traditional heating systems like gas or electric boilers. On top of this modern heat pump units have life expectancies which are on average double that of a typical domestic boiler. With boilers typically expected to last around 10-12 years, and heat pumps having an average lifespan of 20-25 years. Heat pumps can also offer a good return on investment (ROI) by lowering energy bills and increasing property value.
- Sustainability and Maintenance: Installing a heat pump is a smart, modern upgrade for any West Yorkshire home. With the addition of a well-designed temperature control and zoning system, you can easily manage both heating and hot water for optimal efficiency. Paired with other renewable energy sources such as solar panels (PV) or solar thermal systems it becomes fully sustainable and reducing your environmental footprint. Additionally, heat pumps require less maintenance than traditional heating systems with simpler servicing requirements and fewer moving parts. Meaning less costly repairs and breakdown concerns.
What to expect from our heat pump installation process
-
Free, no obligation estimate: Just like our boiler installation process, we offer a free estimate. Our trusted team will use details about your property, its size, location and your family’s heating and hot water demands to calculate both an estimated heat loss and to give you a good idea of heat pump installation costs.
-
Design visit: If you’re happy with your estimate our office team will arrange a scheduled site visit. Our lead engineer will meet you at your home and carry out a full installation survey. The process includes a full room by room heat loss calculation. This is a chargeable service at £375. You will receive a digital copy of your heat loss report. For older homes across West Yorkshire a design visit is a great first step towards renewable energy as it allows you to target renovations or implement changes in order to make your home heat pump ready.
-
Design proposal: After your design visit our team will send you a a design proposal. MS Cookers and Boilers design proposal outlines our plan for installing your heat pump system. It will include detailes on the system’s components, the layout and performance. We believe it’s an integral step in the process as it allows you to see a detailed project plan. The proposal itself covers aspects such as heat loss calculations, radiator sizing, underfloor heating design, heat pump selection, and integration with existing systems. At MS Cookers and Boilers we also ensure the design proposal has transparent pricing and costing schemes such as BUS eligibility.
-
After care: Once the installation is complete we’ll take the time to guide you through the system. Our lead engineer will walk you through the whole system, this includes explaining the thermostat settings, hot water temperature and any safety features. At MS Cookers and Boilers we feel it’s important that you understand how your heat pump works including it’s different components and how it interacts with your radiators or underfloor heating. As with all of our installations we recommend an annual service to ensure it continues to operate efficiently and we will even send you a reminder the following year.
