The Clean Heat Market Mechanism

Clean Heat Market Mechanism

At MS Cookers and Boilers, we take pride in keeping you up to date about important industry developments that may affect your home heating decisions. As of January 1st, 2024, the heating industry is undergoing a significant change under the Clean Heat Market Mechanism (CHMM).

The CHMM introduces fines for boiler manufacturers for every missed heat pump sale . Whilst the aim of the Clean Heat Market Mechanism is to make heat pumps an affordable option for homes it has sparked debate. For us, here in West Yorkshire, we’re left wondering about the implications for homes that are not yet ready for heat pumps. To find out more about if your home is ready for a heat pump click here.

Leading suppliers like Worcester Bosch and Baxi have reluctantly shared that, due to these fines, termed the ‘boiler tax,’ they are compelled to adjust the pricing of boilers starting January 1st, 2024. This adjustment is necessary for them to maintain their business viability and continue investing in eco-friendly products.

So, what does this mean if you’re considering a new boiler?

Essentially, starting from 1st Jan 2024 the cost of new boilers is expected to increase. Initial estimates are expected to be around £120. However, these costs may escalate further if manufacturers fail to meet heat pump sales targets.

We understand that this development might prompt questions and considerations regarding your heating choices. At MS Cookers and Boilers, we are committed to assisting you in navigating these changes and finding the most suitable heating solutions for your home.
